THE AKSARBEN BALL
A NIGHT OF HONOR, COMMITMENT, AND WONDER.
This exciting annual celebration called the Aksarben Ball has been going strong since 1895. Its charter has always been to honor the selfless individuals and families who have given so much time and talent to improve and enrich the state of Nebraska. The Aksarben Ball has continued to be a cherished tradition that salutes not only our state’s business and industry leaders, but also gifted educators, philanthropic innovators, and civic visionaries, as well as raising funds for the Aksarben Scholarship Program.
The 2026 Aksarben Ball will take place on October 10, 2026.
AKSARBEN’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
One of the Foundation’s most rewarding legacy initiatives, the Aksarben Scholarship Program has been awarding scholarships to hardworking, deserving Nebraska students since the mid-1900s.
Every year, funds raised through the Aksarben Ball help more than 200 Nebraska young people continue their educations at the state college or university of their choice. Since the program began, over $65 million has been distributed to Nebraska and western Iowa students.
A NIGHT OF MANY STARS
THOSE WHO ARE FEATURED IN THE AKSARBEN BALL “COURT” INCLUDE:
MOST HONORED CITIZEN
The highlight and culmination of the Aksarben Ball is the unveiling of
the organization’s highest honor, the Most Honored Citizen(s). This
award is given to individuals who have demonstrated a deep
commitment to Nebraska and Nebraskans throughout their lives and
careers. The identity of the winners is a tightly kept secret and is only
revealed during the final moments of the Ball. The Most Honored
Citizens are then ushered to the stage, where they address the
crowd and declare a grand dance celebration that ends this magical
evening.

COURT OF HONOR
The Court of Honor is one of the Foundation’s most prestigious awards. The recognition is given annually to individuals who have excelled in one of the following categories: Agriculture, Arts, Business and Industry, Community Service, Education, Philanthropy, Professions, Public Service, Sports, or Youth. Award winners exemplify an unwavering passion and dedication to making a difference in communities throughout the heartland.
PRINCESSES AND ESCORTS
Selected and invited to participate in honor of their families’ commitment to volunteerism and leadership, Aksarben Princesses and Escorts have the most sizable role within the Aksarben Ball production. These individuals are generally seniors in college and are introduced to Ball attendees for the first time as potential future leaders of tomorrow. When notified of their nomination and upon acceptance of the family honor, these young Nebraskans agree to much more than being involved in a one-night production; they are immersed within the Aksarben framework through which they attend peer socials, networking events, and connect with potential future employers including Aksarben Governors and Councillors. This is yet another way we strive to retain talented young Nebraskans in the state and honor the dedication of each family.
STANDARD BEARERS
Around 13 years of age, Standard Bearers have the distinctive role of presenting banners and Aksarben colors throughout the evening. Their names are presented along with those of their parents and respective communities. Although they are numerically the smallest contingent of the court, their role is crucial.
PAGES
The youngest of the evening’s participants, these children are invited to share in the festivities to honor the volunteerism and generosity of their parents and grandparents. Dressed in silk, gold, and silver, they herald the beginning of the formal program by playfully racing down the runway. Many of these youngsters have gone on to lead Nebraska companies and other civic organizations in their adulthoods.
WOMEN'S BALL COMMITTEE
An important part of the Aksarben Ball’s history is the “behind the scenes” volunteers who have been responsible for the exciting task of planning for, and implementing, this headlining annual event. This group is known as the Aksarben Women’s Ball Committee (WBC). Established in 1930, the Women’s Ball Committee is comprised of 19 dedicated members who each serve a three-year term.
