Software Engineering Skills Assessment Results Are In!
Over the summer, the Nebraska Tech Collaborative, in partnership with Don’t Panic Labs, launched a statewide Software Engineering Skills Assessment to better understand the strengths, needs, and opportunities within Nebraska’s software workforce.
The goal was simple: identify where Nebraska’s tech talent is strong, where gaps exist, and how education, training, and employer expectations can be better aligned across the state.
High-Level Findings
Participants demonstrated foundational knowledge and emerging proficiency across most areas, averaging between 2.2 and 2.6 on a 3-point scale (1 = no experience, 3 = skilled).
Top capabilities include Configuration Management, Requirements, and Maintenance. Capability growth areas included Security, Architecture, Operations, Testing & QA, Project & Delivery Management, and Software Design.
