Since our founding in 1895, Aksarben has been honoring volunteerism and community service by recognizing individuals and families for their contributions to improving the quality of life in Nebraska.

In a move designed to ensure that all are eligible for Aksarben’s highest honor, we introduced the Aksarben Most Honored Citizen award in 2018. These individuals have shown remarkable dedication to our community and a broad range of causes over many years. The Most Honored Citizen is selected for this honor by embodying the Spirit of Aksarben throughout their lives and careers, prioritizing the needs of Nebraska and Nebraskans in a number of ways.

One of the longest and most coveted of Aksarben traditions is the reveal of this top honor during the Aksarben Ball. Those being named the Most Honored Citizens are announced and ushered to the stage by other Ball participants.
