One of the most storied and significant annual events in Nebraska is the annual Aksarben Ball. Since 1895, this grand production has honored citizens of Nebraska and western Iowa for going above and beyond to embody the Spirit of Aksarben. The electrifying atmosphere, spectacular pageantry, and beautiful settings draw thousands from around the country each year.

The Monarchs, or Kings and Queens of Aksarben, featured two families who exemplified community service. Each year, a new King was selected to represent the past as a business and/or civic leader who made remarkable contributions to the heartland throughout his life and career. Similarly, a new Queen was crowned each year to represent the future and hope of our young people for continued prosperity across the state and to honor her families’ achievements. 

Monarchs tradition was replaced in 2018 with Aksarben’s Most Honored Citizens and brought on an exciting new era that paid tribute to the Ball’s treasured past while allowing all men, women, individuals, and families to receive Aksarben’s highest honor.

All who participate in the production of the Aksarben Ball, from the Ball Committee, the Pages, Princesses, and Escorts – up to the Most Honored Citizens – are selected and invited to participate because of the dedication of their family to the community, service to others, and commitment to our state.
